A CANTER THROUGH CAERLEON: INTRODUCTION

The information on this website is the culmination of 10 years research into the rich cultural heritage of the village of Caerleon.

I hope all of those who visit the site get as much enjoyment from reading it as I did in compiling it. I do not claim to have a monopoly on the truth and I am sure there are extracts of this history which those better qualified than I might not agree with. Please feel free to let me know if this is the case. I would also welcome feedback (positive or negative) as to whether readers find it interesting and informative. Please use the feedback section of the site to let me have your views.

This history is a living, breathing entity and I will be updating it on a regular basis. If anyone has any information which they feel worthy of inclusion on the site, then please let me know. My reason for starting this venture was to inform, educate, stimulate debate and share my passion for the village with the wider world.

I would like to thank and acknowledge Norman Stevens for his kind permission to use photographs and text from his excellent series of books on the pictorial history of Caerleon. The books are on sale locally or available from:

Old Bakehouse Publications, Church Street, Abertillery, NP13 1EA. Web:www.oldbakehouseprint.co.uk Email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

I would also like to thank the operators of www.Caerleon.net for their permission to use material on their website. The website is excellently presented and maintained and provides a wealth of information about Caerleon.  My thanks also go to the Gwent Local History Society who have given their permission to use a number of articles they have written and published over the years about Caerleon.  The remainder of the information on the site has been gathered from so many sources over the years that it is just not possible to remember and list them all.

Please enjoy. I believe Caerleon is the tourism, cultural and historical jewel in the crown of the City of Newport. I hope you agree.

Finally, if any local group in Caerleon would like me to add a link to their website, please let me know and I will be happy to do so.
